Hansen Place Memory Care Assisted Living Cottage is the second partnership with this client. At 9,000 SF and 16 units, the first cottage, Hansen House, was completed in 2010 and is always at full capacity. After such a great success, it seemed natural to pursue a second cottage on the adjacent lot. This 16,000 SF Memory Care Assisted Living Cottage was sited to maximize and combine the visitor parking lot into one, which also allowed for the main entrances and buildings to read as a campus.
With 16 studios and 2 one-bedroom units, Hansen Place offers an opportunity for couples to remain together. Each residential unit includes a large living area for furniture, a private bathroom with a roll-in accessible shower, adjust closet shelving, individually controlled thermostats, 9-foot ceilings and a personalized memory box at the entry. The commons spaces form a continuous walking path with no dead ends to help alleviate the stress of the resident. The walking path leads to quiet smaller sitting areas, as well as larger group activity areas, such as the main activity room with a beauty salon, light therapy, and activity storage. The kitchen, dining room, and living room are all open to each other, which is more typical of a home. All of the support spaces, such as dishwashing and laundry, are kept behind sound walls to minimize noise disruptions. The exterior courtyard is secure and includes a continuous walking path, planting beds, and benches.
This project also includes an Adult Daycare Facility and a two-car garage for a resident transport van with access from a rear staff parking lot. The Adult Daycare contains quiet rooms, an accessible bathroom with roll-in shower, an accessible residential kitchen, and an open activity room leading to the same secure exterior courtyard.
